Recovery Partnerships

MTF currently has 36 recovery partners, recovering musculoskeletal tissue at 28 different recovery programs. Orthopaedic departments of member medical institutions and organ, tissue and eye procurement agencies operate these recovery programs. Procurement agencies that are members of the Foundation include 17 organ procurement organizations (OPOs), five eye banks and three independent tissue banks.

To insure integrity in the recovery process, MTF does not work with any individual for-profit tissue recovery services. MTF also employs an audit team whose sole purpose is to audit on a routine basis the tissue recovery organizations that MTF partners with to insure compliance with our strict standards and protocols.

Benefits of Membership

Benefits to the recovery agency include:

  • Assistance in developing tissue recovery programs utilizing standardized protocols, procedures and criteria for tissue donors
  • Technical assistance for screening all tissue donors
  • Technical training (initial, on-going and annual) and evaluation for all tissue recovery staff
  • Input into donor criteria and recovery protocols
  • All the equipment and supplies required for recovery are provided
  • Reimbursement of all tissue recovery and associated administrative overhead costs
  • Assurance that local tissues are always made available to local hospitals on a first priority basis
  • Indemnification for all processed tissue
  • Access to research and education grants
  • Customized educational and promotional support materials (brochures, slides, posters, etc.)
  • Access to MTF-sponsored educational activities (Hospital Development, Clinical Applications, Foundation Annual Meeting)

Benefits to the medical community primarily deal with access to tissue. Those benefits include:

  • Access to superior quality tissue, processed aseptically in AATB-accredited validated Class 10 (certified) Clean Rooms, utilizing rigorous pharmaceutical industry and quality assurance standards
  • Access to tissue that has been tested with all available HIV/Hepatitis tests
  • Priority access to tissues recovered in its service area
  • Priority access to tissues recovered nationally by other MTF member agencies
  • Access to "special” order tissues (e.g., customized sizes or shapes)
  • Access to non-transplantable research tissues
